A unique opportunity, only a few months to admire some of the works that tell the story of three of the greatest Spanish protagonists of the 20th-century artistic avant-garde: Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí.
From October 25th 2025 to January 25th 2026, Fabbrica del Vapore will make possible to retrace the fundamental stages of modern art, reliving through the works of these three artists the history of the avant-garde. The exhibition unfolds across five different sections, featuring works on paper, engravings and prints that narrate each painter’s artistic journey: from their departure from academic canons to their move to France, cradle of the 20th-century avant-garde, where each of them developed a personal expressive language and contributed to shaping the artistic landscape of the last century. Picasso developed a new conception of the relationship between form and space, culminating in the affirmation of the poetics of simultaneity; Miró based his research on the freedom of line and color; while Dalí explored the role of art as an expression of the unconscious. The three artists were united by an eclectic approach that led them to experiment with painting, sculpture, graphics, applied arts and cinema, allowing them to influence not only art but also society and the entire culture of the 20th century.
The common thread linking their artistic paths is certainly Surrealism, understood both as a movement and as a privileged means of expressing the unconscious and individual identity. The exhibition brings together both well-known and lesser-known works, some of which are being shown in Italy for the first time, to illustrate, through contrasts and affinities, the dialogue between these three visionary minds, united by far more than merely their geographical birthplace.
